Back Story: WHAT DID JESUS SAY by Rev. Terry Allan Christian #Christian #nonfiction #backstory

Back Story: WHAT DID JESUS SAY by Rev. Terry Allan Christian

I was 23 yrs. old in the middle of a ‘near death’ moment when I met the Lord in a dream. Jesus asked me, do you want to stay here or return and I asked Him what I’d do if I returned and I saw myself in front of thousands of people sharing HIS WORDS. I then told

Jesus, I wanted to return and woke up.

When I woke up, I was still a high school drop out after leaving a violently dysfunctional home at 16. I also stuttered so bad I couldn’t say 5 words in a row without people laughing and mocking me. After this near-death experience I would go onto to read over 500 books on personal development and become a Professional Speaker delivering over 2500 presentations before being called away to start a online Ministry.

When I asked the Lord what He wanted me to do in Ministry that hasn’t already been done, Jesus said, tell them what I told them and nothing more. I was then instructed to compose a book outlining what Jesus said without adding any personal opinions or comments.

It would take me 12yrs to get published and 5 more years before I was healthy enough to talk about the book. I had been experiencing ‘Job-Like’ tribulations from the very day I got up to do (what I thought was) final editing.

My father would die on the day I began final editing, so I returned to help my mother since I was the oldest son. It had been 18yrs since I was in her home because my dad wouldn’t allow me to visit her at home. She would die 3yrs later and I was there at her deathbed breathing in her last exhausted breathe.

After her death, I returned to my book editing and I got injured helping a friend and could hardly walk for 2yrs, then came the worst case of Bladder Cancer the doctors said they’d ever seen and they gave me 3yrs to live unless they removed my bladder and attached it to my outside- wow-
The book suddenly was the least of my concerns and I decided to go for what I later called THE LIFE WALK. I created a 21day sabbatical experience where I prayed, fasted, ate biblical foods mentioned in Genesis adding fish while I read everything Jesus Said about healing in the 4 Gospels. And when I returned a month later to see my doctors they released me ‘cancer free’ and it’s been that way for 10yrs now. God gets the Glory while I put in the effort.

Now the back injury was resolved by surgery, the bladder cancer was divinely healed by God and then came emergency throat surgery the month my book was released and I lost my Hollywood smile and the ability to properly talk publicly for 5yrs. (Wow again)

Today, I live in Negril Jamaica where I came for the Life Walk experience. I counsel Christians worldwide online while helping the local schools where I teach LEADERSHIP SKILLS to the parents and speak to the children too. I’m 68 and feel 48 and expect to spend the rest of my life in Jamaica.

In closing I learned one thing from all this that JOB didn’t know at the time of his tribulations- God was allowing JOB to be tested for a bigger reason than JOB and I accepted whatever happened to me was with Gods approval so I considered it a test and not a penalty.

I am among men most richly blessed and whatever I become will be the result of Gods Blessings combined with my loving obedience to what Jesus Said.

In His Love, I serve.

Rev. Terry A. Christian

About the Author

Since dedicating his life to Jesus at the age of 23, Terry Allan Christian has been reading the red lettered version of the 4 Gospels as recorded in the KJV Bible. Even though Terry reads the whole Bible, his primary focus is on the words of Jesus and the example of His actions.

Terry grew up in a violent dysfunctional family where he quit school at 16 and left home. He stuttered so bad he could only say 3-5 words in a row. His family and friends mocked him and that caused much stress in his early life.

At the age of 23, he had a near death experience and in which he had a dream. In this dream, he was told that one day he would be a teacher for Jesus. Needless to say, he was scared at first because of his stuttering and lack of structured education however, he always had a child-like faith and trust in Jesus as Lord.

After the dream, he was soon hired by the Dale Carnegie Organization and trained in sales and public speaking, where he met a man who taught him how to visually read. During the next few years Terry read several hundred books on the subject of personal growth.

At the age of 30, Terry became a professional Motivational Speaker and Executive Trainer and over the next 20 years he would deliver more than 2,500 presentations to private and public audiences across America and Canada.

Several years ago, Terry retired as a public speaker after feeling the Holy Spirit redirecting his life. He was led to do what Jesus told him many years earlier. After researching the 4 Gospels he composed the book What Did Jesus Say: The Seven Messages from the Master, using only the Words spoken by Jesus as recorded in the 4 Gospels, without adding any personal comments or opinions.

As in all God called missions it took longer, cost more and challenged him to the edge of his faith. He would later say, he had to read the Book of Job just to understand why this was happening to him and was he being tested or penalized. In the end, he was being tested and by the grace of God, he prevailed.

Now after 12 years of study, obedience, difficulty and struggle, this book is now available in Paperback, eBook, Audio Book and Kindle.

Today, Author and Counselor, Rev. Terry Christian is founder of Foundations for Life ‘Online’ Ministries and he presently lives at Negril Jamaica where he does local missionary work in schools and churches while counseling Christians worldwide online thru his program Christians Helping Christians.

Negril, Jamaica is where Rev. Christian went to fast & pray while seeking divine healing for Bladder Cancer. His doctors gave him 3yrs to live so he created a healing sabbatical and after fasting & praying, and walking the beach for 21 days, he returned to his Doctors and they released him ‘cancer free’.

Terry calls this program: The Life Walk –aka- The Miracle Walk and now offers this ‘restoration’ program online or in Negril, for everyone seeking Life, Health or Marriage Restoration.
Terry believes: WITH GOD, all things are possible, all the time, wherever we live and at every given moment, when we pray, believing.

About the Book

This incredible book organizes the teachings of Jesus using only the words spoken by Jesus and nothing more. The book puts readers into an imagined walk with Jesus on the beach, allowing readers to hear over 500 passages spoken by Him as recorded in the 4 Gospels.

“I was asked one time, where did this book idea come from?” says Christian.“Well, when I was suddenly called away from motivational speaking at the top of my business career, I knew, I was being called to do what Jesus told me, 30yrs earlier. When I asked Jesus what He wanted me to do that wasn’t already being done, Jesus said; ‘Tell them, what I told them and nothing more, add no comments or opinions.’ With those instructions, I composed What Did Jesus Say: The Seven Messages from the Master containing over 500 scriptures spoken only by Jesus to those who loved and followed Him and I’ve added no opinions or comments. Whoever reads this book will know and understand what Jesus said to those who loved and followed Him and what’s expected from those who call Him their Lord and Savior.

Featuring the “best of the best” of what Jesus said, this book is a ‘one of a kind’. The scriptures, stripped of everything save for the words spoken by Jesus, have been composed into seven primary messages and serves as a daily Teaching Devotional.

Back Story: THE CHRISTIAN CHRISTMAS CONDITION by Scott Rankin #Christian #backstory

Let God show you Christmas

By Scott Rankin

To recap, we say all those things, and yet - there is still something so many of us are still missing… what is it? Let me start from the beginning.

Look carefully and you can see the world’s imprint on how you think, speak, act, and experience the holidays.  We’ve been conditioned.  We begin by saying, Merry Christmas!  Happy holidays!  Did you get all your Christmas shopping done?  What’s your family doing for the break?  All of these are jolly conversation ice-breakers no deeper than the thin shell of ice we just broke with a gleeful greeting.  These phrases are from the world, but does anyone frequently dive deeper than these moments of shallow conversation and really plunge deep into a Christmas discussion the way God wishes we would?  What is there to know?

So we say, Jesus is the reason for the season.  We say Christmas has become so commercialized and we need to get back to the real meaning of Christmas.  We need to bring Christ back into Christmas.  Why?  Does it make us feel better?  Is it even about us?  Yes, maybe?  Knowing Jesus came to this world to save us can deliver a wonderful amount of peace, but are there opportunities of giving God a larger amount of acknowledgement and glory He desires or deserves that we might be missing?

Then we say, Christmas is the perfect opportunity to spread the gospel.  We should be seeing more of a Savior in Christmas rather than a helpless baby, seeing more of God, or seeing both.  But is that everything?  We say using Santa Claus, his elves, and his reindeer more to segue into the story of a loving Lord with the greatest gift can help further the kingdom.  But is that the very best approach?  Answer these questions correctly and you could help win or strengthen the souls of many.

What do you think?  What does your preacher, pastor or bible study leader think? What do your friends think? Because we’ve tried to answer these questions ourselves from our own viewpoint, we’ve been missing the real point all along.  But when we ask God to show us from His viewpoint, all becomes crystal clear and has so much more meaning, it also becomes much more effective and glorifying to Him.  So why don’t we ask Him, “God, what do you think?”

Are we missing the mark in any way through our Christmas celebration traditions?  We try so hard to verbalize our own solutions to the situation, but God has something important to say which can help us see things from His perspective.

We spend too much time talking and not enough listening to our shepherd.  To recap, we say all those things, and yet - there is still something so many of us are still missing… what is it?  The Christian Christmas Condition guides us through God’s word to let Him tell us and show us His holy perspective on our current Christmas activities, trends and traditions.  If we listen to God’s viewpoint, we won’t miss anything.

No matter what the world has conditioned us to think, see, act like, God’s truth can help us see things from His holy perspective and in turn, get us out of the condition we are in!  And that, my friends, is the invitation to experience… (you guessed it) God’s “Un-Conditional” love!!

Enjoy the book and when you share it with friends and family, try not to give away the secret ending!

Be blessed,
Scott (author)

The Long Road to Neverland by Misha Handman @frivyeti #bookpromotion

The Long Road to Neverland

By Misha Handman

Appropriately enough for a novel set in a grown and fading Neverland, “Shadow Stitcher” owes its roots to a pair of games. It all started in the fall of 2013, when I learned about a worldwide challenge to write 50,000 words in only a month. It was my first experience with National Novel-Writing Month, and I was filled with fire and zeal. I gradually sharpened my idea to a fanstasy-historical detective piece, The Maltese Falcon meets Peter Pan. This would be the moment! I would write a novel, pushing through writer’s block and uncertainty and carving a place in the world of great fantasy authors.

I did not succeed. In fact, I only managed 15,000 words. Disheartened, I put the story aside. Over the next couple of years, I would keep working on it between other projects, in bits and pieces.

Then, in 2015, I took part in another contest, this one to write a novella for publication by Tor. The timeframe was tight, so I looked through my old files, dusted off Everland, and wrote a 30,000 word mystery in a month and a half. This time, I thought, I had made it.

I hadn’t. The novella was not published. But it succeeded in re-igniting my fire for Basil Stark and his oddball world. I spent the next several months diving back into the novel, making changes and streamlining information based on what I’d learned writing the novella. I submitted to a half-dozen publishers, each of whom told me some variation on the same theme, “We like it, but it’s not quite what we’re looking for.”

Until I found EDGE. As it turned out, “Shadow Stitcher” was exactly what they were looking for, and together, we have finally brought it to life.

About the Author

Born on Vancouver Island, Canada, Misha Handman spent his early life immersed in the arts, with one parent a teacher and the other a manager of theatre and opera. Moving across the country to Ottawa, and then Toronto, he began writing at a young age – first writing comics and designing card games for his closest friends and then, buoyed by their approval, gradually expanding out to submissions to magazines and short story collections, and graduating from the University of Toronto with a classic English degree.

Misha has always believed in the importance of entertainment to our health and well-being. He is also interested in our shared fictional history, working in game design to develop collaborative games and story-driven experiences and exploring the new worlds that we are sharing. His fascination with these things led to the development of his first novel, Shadow Stitcher, as an exploration of the English classic “Peter Pan.”

When not writing, Misha spends his time in Victoria, Canada, working as a professional fundraiser for charities – a job he describes as “helping people to help people.” He continues to work on game design on the side, and is always excited to see the myriad ways that people approach story construction and creation, both as a voracious reader of genre fiction and a dedicated player of games.

Character Interview: Grave Consequences Cass Donovan #characterinterview @lenagregory03

5:13 AM 0 Comments

We are really excited to have Cass Donovan here with us today at Blogging Authors! Cass comes from the inside pages of Lena Gregory's new book, GRAVE CONSEQUENCES. Take it away, Cass!

What is your name? Cass Donovan

What do you look like? I’m about 5’7” with long blonde hair and blue eyes. I try to stay slim, often taking long walks on the beach with my dog, Beast, but eating at the diner, the deli, and the bakery more often than not makes that a bit of a challenge.

Where are you today and what are you doing? Today, like most days, I’ll be working at Mystical Musings, my psychic shop on the boardwalk. I have several individual readings planned, and with tourist season starting, I’m hoping my group reading tonight will bring a nice crowd. Before the group reading, though, I’m hoping to get a few minutes to spend on the beach with Beast, followed by dinner at the diner with Bee and Stephanie.

You come face to face with your worse enemy. How do you react? It depends. If it’s someone who’s done something to me, I will usually just walk away to avoid a confrontation. However, if it’s someone who’s done something to one of my friends, that’s a different story. Then, I’m sure to get my point across to the person that they’ve done something unacceptable, be it by direct confrontation or something a bit more subtle.

How would your parents describe you? They’d describe me as a hard worker. Someone who’s kind and sensitive, with a gift they believed more strongly in than I do.

Who is your best friend? Bee Maxwell, who owns Dreamweaver Designs, a designer dress shop down the boardwalk from Mystical Musings, and Stephanie Lawrence, who handles all of my finances and is married to a local detective, are my two best friends. We spend most of our free time together, occasionally, ending up in some sort of trouble. Apparently, I’m a bad influence, according to Stephanie’s husband, Tank, anyway.

Are you faith-oriented? I am somewhat faith-oriented, though not in a traditional sort of way. I do believe in God, and I know there is something beyond this world, since I communicate with its inhabitants on a regular basis.

Are you married or in a relationship? I am in a sort of relationship with Luke Morgan. We tried the long-distance thing, but it wasn’t working out so great. Now that Luke has moved to Bay Island, things are going better, though he’s not thrilled with my continued involvement in his police investigations and really doesn’t know what to make of my psychic abilities.

Do you have children? Not yet, but I am hoping to become a godmother soon.

Thank you so much for having me!

Inside the Book

Title: GRAVE CONSEQUENCES
Author: Lena Gregory
Publisher: Beyond the Page Publishing
Pages: 310
Genre: Cozy Mystery

BOOK BLURB:

Cass Donovan is reminded that you can’t believe everything you hear, especially when it comes from the dead . . .

When stories begin circulating of a centuries-old ghost haunting the Bay Island lighthouse, Cass is caught up in mystical happenings of her own, with countless voices from the beyond all clamoring for her attention with dire warnings. But before she has a chance to learn whether there’s a connection between the rumored ghost and her restless visitors, the lighthouse keeper mysteriously falls to his death, and Cass’s reputation for communing with the dead lands her right in the middle of the police investigation.

Cass knows the victim was no saint, as he made little effort to hide his philandering ways from his wife or anyone else, and often acted out with no thought for the feelings of others. But had he finally gone too far, or were there more menacing motives behind his murder? As Cass begins building a list of suspects, including the man’s supposedly grieving wife and a mysterious new woman in town, she also turns her ear to those otherworldly voices, hoping for a clue. And as she begins to close in on the culprit, she realizes too late that if she’s not careful, she’ll soon be communicating with the dead in person . . .

Book Promotion: How I Promoted The Marvelous Mechanical Man by Rie Sheridan Rose @riesheridanrose #bookpromotion

Book Promotion: How I Promoted The Marvelous Mechanical Man

By Rie Sheridan Rose
Promoting The Marvelous Mechanical Man, and The Conn-Mann Chronicles in general has been an interesting learning curve. When I realized several years (and three books) ago that my small press publisher didn’t have the resources to dedicate to one author alone, I made the decision to take back the control of the series and do everything myself.

It’s been a fairly steep curve, but I’ve learned a lot about marketing and publicity. Though, Heaven knows, there is a world more to learn!

One of the things I’ve realized is that it helps to have a consolidated presence online. My Twitter banner relates to the series; I have a Facebook page for the books; and they have their own website. Of course, none of these things get updated as often as they should, but that is the subject of a whole different post.

I have learned through the years—and much trial and error—that certain things work, and other marketing items are a waste for me. For example, I have boxes of pens in my marketing cabinet that have long ago dried up. No problem. Since the Conn-Mann series is set in the 1870s, I have invested in pencils this time. They don’t dry up and never go out of style. Plus, kids love them, and that might get parents to give a second look.

I met the lovely siblings behind Teapunk Teas at a convention, and together we have created three tea blends based on characters in the series: Jo’s Morning Jolt; Alistair’s Afternoon Delight; and Leonora’s Illuminating Libation. Each one is tied to their character in taste and text on the tin. Another interesting and effective marketing tool. We have cross-pollination this way too, so see who you can partner with to create something different and unique for your brand.

Postcards can be highly effective marketing tools. Particularly when the image is consistent with my convention banner and other items. The back currently lists the first four books with a blurb about each.

One of my biggest hits marketing-wise was a real surprise. Always trying to think outside the box of table lures, I came across some tiny plastic cats. As cats feature prominently in the series, I bought several bags and found a wooden box shaped like a trunk to put them in. I have a sign on the box that we have to get rid of some of the kittens and asking people to adopt one for fifty cents. I sell more kittens at conventions...again, drawing in the kids. Though I have some customers who return year after year to get more kittens.

My main point here is that thinking of what is unusual about your book or series and finding a way to market that can lead to unexpected sales in the long run.

About the Author
Rie Sheridan Rose multitasks. A lot. Her short stories appear in numerous anthologies, including Nightmare Stalkers and Dream Walkers Vols. 1 and 2, and Killing It Softly Vols. 1 and 2. She has authored twelve novels, six poetry chapbooks, and lyrics for dozens of songs. These were mostly written in conjunction with Marc Gunn, and can be found on “Don’t Go Drinking with Hobbits” and “Pirates vs. Dragons” for the most part–with a few scattered exceptions.

Her favorite work to date is The Conn-Mann Chronicles Steampunk series with five books released so far: The Marvelous Mechanical Man, The Nearly Notorious Nun, The Incredibly Irritating Irishman, The Fiercely Formidable Fugitive, and The Elderly Earl’s Estate.

Rie lives in Texas with her wonderful husband and several spoiled cat-children.

Jo and Alistair find themselves in the middle of a whirlwind of kidnapping, catnapping, and cross-country chases that involve airships, trains, and a prototype steam car. After a friendship ignites and morphs into a curious tale of parallel souls with a Brazilian-American soldier serving in the U.S. military in South Korea, Panorama reflects on the author’s contemplations to return to a crumbling family life in Los Angeles or to endure his life in Seoul for an end-of-contract cash payout.

With a thought-provoking storyline that covers eating live octopus, philosophical debates about the gender of God, a pregnancy, and bisexual erasure in men, Panorama delivers a page-turning cerebral adventure. Ending with prose that simultaneously bites and soothes, Panorama suggests readers stand tall in their unique intersections of relationships and sex. Reminding us that as daunting as the vicissitudes of life, and no matter the view from the cockpit of life, the human spirit cannot, and should not, be restrained. While truth may be the bitterest pill of them all, the effects of our truth can bring us closer to an unbroken life.

PRAISE

In this small book are two masterpieces, a riveting remembrance of several life-altering experiences and relationships the author began in Seoul, South Korea, and an essay, let's call it part tirade, part profound reflection on our view of men, masculinity, sexuality, and romance. You cannot stop until finished because there is no midway, no stopping point as you become a part of his world. After nearly every sentence you scream with or at his observations either with critical reflections or ecstasy. Ross has his pulse on his generation and the most precarious issues confronting sexuality and romance.

I found myself in a local bar called Panorama, skimming through my work contract. I contemplated my ability to continue this working abroad disaster and considered walking away from a large end-of-contract payment, or perhaps I was simply waiting for an explanation from “God” about why everything falls apart. I read the pages over and over, searching for what I needed to do to end my contract and still get the cash. Panorama was a quaint, local bar that Koreans escaped to to enjoy horrific karaoke and shots of throat-burning Soju, the equivalent of cheap vodka. Americans were not interested, nor did they notice this dingy place.
Tonight, it was fairly empty. Alone on the stage stood a Korean ahjumma, or aged woman. An ahjusshi, or aged man, also Korean, sat in flooded tan trousers on a short stool next to her, holding a large cello. The woman had a gray, shoulder-length poufy perm with a slight purple tint. She wore a hanbok—a traditional Korean dress—her face covered in thick, pasty-white makeup. With clarity, passion, and purpose, she and the cellist performed as no one but me watched. The song had a simple, memorable riff with a reflective chord progression. The woman had turned off the karaoke television screen and sang from memory as the cellist supported her.
She sang as if this were the last song she would ever sing. Her soul flickered between every note, with presence and awe. Like she was going somewhere and would never return. As the woman sang, she reached into the spotlight that lit her, pulling the light closer to her chest—like she and the light had established a deep state of devotion. As the ahjusshi played the cello, hidden in the woman’s shadow, particles of dust floated through the light and disappeared into the darkness, like floating glowworms. I could not recognize her words but recognized the source of them. This woman must be singing to me... I thought. I fantasized about hope as she sang.
The four soldiers sat at the empty bar, near the stage. I sat in an oversized, black leather booth near the entrance. One of the soldiers went back outside, propping the door open momentarily. The glacial breeze returned. The soldier strode back in and took a detour toward my booth, warming his hands. I turned away but could see him approaching from the corner of my eye.
“Ey, excuse me, bro. Restroom around here?” He shivered.
“Behind the bar...” I pointed.
After a few minutes, as I began to pack up, I heard a voice. “Ey, can I sit here? You look normal...” I looked up, confused. It was him again. He chuckled and shivered.
“Yeah, I’m headed out...all yours. Has a good view of the stage.” I snickered to myself.
“Man, this woman can sing. I wonder what she’s saying. I’m Alveré,” the soldier continued, “Alvín in English. What you drinkin’?”
I motioned to my waiter for the check.
“Let me guess. You’re from the West Coast,” he said.

Alveré quickly made it clear that he had plenty of time to chat and was looking for a new friend. He removed his hat, placed it on the table, and rolled up his sleeves; he began flipping through the beer menu. Someone new in my life is the last thing I wanted.
Alveré had a slightly grown-in buzz cut and a naïve presence. He was dressed in army fatigues with coyote brown boots. He was covered in crisp snowflakes; Somehow, I could see the hexagonal and octagonal crystalline structure of the ice. His face was stuck in a half-smile, on the verge of a chuckle. He was nearly six feet tall with perfect posture and the typical, stiff, herculean stance of a military person.
He wore a forearm tattoo on his left arm of an Admiralty ship’s anchor wrapped in chain links. The anchor trans- formed into a thirty-petal rose at the eye of the anchor. There was a hummingbird feeding on the rose, its wings curled in and up.
“Yep, from California—L.A. I’m Ross.”
“Ross from Cali...” He seemed to contemplate this and quickly mumbled something in Portuguese. “Nice to meet you, Ross. I’m from New York, born in São Paulo, Brazil, though.” “Moved here when I was thirteen.” Alveré excitedly corrected himself, having momentarily forgotten that he was now in Korea. “You know what I mean...moved out there.” He laughed.
“Brazil? How’d you get into the U.S. Army?”
“Long story. My unit just got here. I just met these idiots—FML.” He continued. “You military? What are you doin’ all the way in Korea...by yourself?”
“I’m actually an English teacher in a work-abroad program,” I responded.
“You signed up to come here? Who does that?!”
I pondered, squinting my eyes. “I guess I did? What a dumbass.” We laughed. “And I’m honestly sitting here regretting every moment.” I held my contract up.
“Respect. Wow.”
For the next several minutes, we spoke about the absurdities of Korean culture. Every time I glanced at Alveré to size him up, his eye contact felt like a Cyclops beam, at least for the fraction of a microsecond our pupils met. In these moments, the details of his eyes were apparent. His eyes were thalassic, deep, abidingly blue, with a thin chestnut lining. While intense and notably awkward, something about Alveré seemed familiar, like a puppy’s gaze.
As we spoke, Alveré was wringing his hands on top
of the table. He would rub his hands on the side of his pants and laugh randomly between longer gaps of silence, uttering, “Interesting!” at the end of most of my sentences. One of the other army guys tumbled into my booth.
“Hey, bro!” a drunken soldier said to Alveré.
“Ooh, he’s sexy, Alvin! Did you get his number?” the solider drunkenly joked while reaching out and twisting Alveré’s nipple. Alveré pulled away, embarrassed.
Another soldier interjected, “Alvin, you going tonight, bro? Rampant Korean p*$$y, bro...free flowing like mas agua.” The soldier began to do the robot dance.
“Alvin’s our new resident Brazilian model to attract that tiger pussy... Look at this face.” The soldiers exploded into gut-wrenching laughter, grabbing Alveré’s chin and squishing his lips. “F$g#@t,” one soldier joked. “We’re headed to this joint in Hungdae.” Hungdae was Seoul’s party capital. A night in Hungdae would mean we would be out until 6 a.m.
“You should join us...” The solider glanced over at me. “I’m Connor.” Connor reached out to shake my hand. He continued, “I hear they just let you...” The soldier paused, then wiggled his middle and ring finger around in quick circles. “And the girls just start makin’ out with each other.”
“You wanna roll through or...” The soldiers looked at me as Alveré hesitated. He whispered to me, “Don’t leave me with these idiots. Please, bro, pleassssse!”
I explained to the soldiers that I was an English teacher and that my class started early. They became distracted and began to chatter drunkenly to each other.
“Please, Ross from Cali... Don’t leave me with these douches—we vibin’, right?”
I continued to pack my bag.
“I’ll text you the address. Let me get your number. Just a few hours; never been to Hungdae...”
“Nice to meet you, Alveré, but I’m out...”
“My mom calls me Alveré; friends call me Alvin—you can call me Alví, though, if you want...” He continued. “You can tell me about L.A. I’ve always wanted to go there.”
I laughed. I stared at my contract. My passport looked back at me from the bottom of my bag. I looked back at Alví.
All right. I’m in, let’s go.
