# 20 Questions

πŸ“š 20 Questions with Cheryl Carpinello Author of ANCIENT TALES AND LEGENDS SERIES @ccarpinello #20Questions

Today's guest is Cheryl Carpinello. She is on a virtual book tour with Pump Up Your Book and is the author of the YA series, ANCIENT TALES AND LEGENDS. Cheryl is here today to answer 20 questions about her life, writing and goals!

1. Are you a morning writer or a night writer? I write some mornings, but mostly afternoons. No nights.

2. Do you outline or are you a pantster? I just do a quick outline of main points and then write from there.

3. Which comes first – plot or character? Tough one. For my Ancient Egyptian stories, both sort of came together. I knew I wanted to write about King Tut, so I decided what to do with that character. Guess in that case it was character first. In my Arthurian stories, it was definitely character(s) first.

4. Noise or quiet when working on your manuscript? I always have a music DVD playing or a movie I’ve seen a hundred times. My favorite artists: Mumford & Sons. My favorite movie: toss up between The Secret of Walter Mitty or an Elvis Presley flick.

5. Favorite TV show? NCIS and Death in Paradise

6. Favorite type of music? I like rock ‘n roll and a little country.

7. Favorite craft besides writing? I enjoy reading and working in the yard, but I’m not much of a crafter.

8. Do you play a musical instrument? Grew up playing piano along with guitar. Haven’t played either for years.

9. Single or married? Married, coming up on 50 years in March 2022.

10. Children or no? Yes. One boy and one girl. Four grandkids: 2 boys and 2 girls.

11. Pets? Not anymore. I had a horse growing up but had to put her down after 30 years. Had a number of dogs and cats when growing up. My kids had a cat which lived forever.

12. Favorite place to write? I usually write in my living room on my couch. Sometimes I will sit outside on the front porch.

13. Favorite restaurant? Anywhere I can have a margarita and chips & queso!

14. Do you work outside the home? Not any more. Taught high school English for 24 years. Worked for airlines and our airport for 20 years (overlapped with teaching).

15. What was the name of the last movie you saw? Peter Rabbit

16. Favorite outdoor activity? Walking, hiking, swimming.

17. Pet peeve? People with no common sense.

18. Your goal in life? To be supportive of my family.

19. Your most exciting moment? Standing on the Giza Plateau in Egypt beside the Sphinx!

20. The love of your life? My husband, Don.

Cheryl Carpinello taught high school English for 25 years. During that time, she worked with numerous students who didn’t like to read for a variety of reasons. However, she discovered that even the most reluctant readers became engaged in the classroom and in reading when she introduced units on King Arthur and the works of ancient world writers. Upon retiring, she set out to write fast-paced, action-filled stories in these setting to encourage young readers to read more. When not writing, you can find her reading, spending time with family, and traveling.

“In 2008, my husband and I spent three weeks traveling around Egypt via train and visiting all those magnificent archeological sites. Since we returned home, Egypt has never been far from my thoughts. I truly believe that I left part of my soul in that ancient land. To satisfy my longing to return, I wrote Sons of the Sphinx and Tutankhamen Speaks.” Visit her on Twitter and Facebook.

BOOK BLURB

A grandmother’s gift usually bring happiness. Rosa’s gift: a very different story. Hearing the dead alienated her from classmates. Not good for a 15-year-old.

Many times very insistent, the dead cared little for her surroundings. They even bothered her in class. Dates? Forget that.

Then one day, he shows up in her room. An old dead guy. A really old famous dead guy. In living human form!

Thrilling story of battling good and evil in an ancient world.
