Today's guest is Negrita Smart, author of the children's book, GRACE AND THE GOLDEN RULE. Negrita is here with us today to tell us more about the author behind the book.

 

Negrita is a small-town girl from Dadeville, Alabama. She is a wife, sister, believer, and teacher at heart.

 

The first of her family to graduate from college, Negrita holds a Masters in Business Administration and the insurance designation of Chartered Property & Casualty Underwriters and holds insurance licenses in Property and Casualty and Life and Health. She credits and shares her accomplishments with her supportive family.     

 

Negrita loves spending time with her family and has happily taken on the official role of Event Planner bringing family members together through fun and love. 

 

In her professional life, Negrita utilizes her talent for sharing knowledge and information as a new-hire trainer creating user-friendly webinars, courses, tests, and gauge learning within business areas such as auto, property, and agriculture.    

 

As an author, Negrita is a member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators always looking to connect, share and grow with fellow writers.    

 

An active supporter of her local church ministry, Negrita is driven to share life lessons with children through story-telling and relatable characters.

1.     Are you a morning writer or a night writer? 

I am a morning writer. I normally write in the very early hours of the morning - usually any time beginning at 2:00 a.m. - 4:00 a.m. There is a peacefulness and such clarity of thoughts during those hours. It is as if I am the only person in the world that is awake.

 

2.     Do you outline or are you a pantster? 

I outline my Children’s book stories. I begin with selecting the lesson that I want to teach and the message I want to share. After selecting the lesson, I outline the beginning, middle, and end. I always keep a journal with me or use notes on my phone so that I can write down ideas as soon as I am inspired.

 

3.     Which comes first – plot or character? 

My books have a main character, Grace, who is a five-year old girl. She was created first. 4. Noise or quiet when working on your manuscript?

I prefer the quiet when first writing the manuscript. I can edit with background noise. Writing the manuscript requires blessed quietness.

 

5.     Favorite TV show? 

I love game shows - prime time game shows such as The Price Is Right, The Wall, Weakest Link, Press Your Luck, Family Feud. I am constantly giving advice to the contestants while watching the shows. Sometimes they take my advice, sometimes they do not.

 

6.     Favorite type of music? 

I enjoy listening to gospel, jazz, and instrumental music. My favorite Sirius channels are The Message and Watercolors.

 

7.     Favorite craft besides writing? 

I enjoy arts and crafts, specifically working with silk flowers and ribbons. My favorite flower is the orchid.

 

8.     Do you play a musical instrument? 

Yes, I play drums.

 

9.     Single or married? 

Married for 16 years .

 

10.  Children or no? 

I do not have any children. My sisters share their children with me. I have a very special nephew and niece who I adore.

 

11.  Pets? 

No pets.

 

12.  Favorite place to write? 

I write at home.

 

13.  Favorite restaurant? 

Olive Garden. I normally order the same entree each visit. The Chicken Gnocchi soup is my favorite - with extra dumplings of course.

 

14.  Do you work outside the home? 

Yes, I am a professional Trainer for an insurance company. I have worked for the company for 18 years.

 

15.  What was the name of the last movie you saw? 

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.

 

16.  Favorite outdoor activity? 

Shopping! This counts as outdoor activity if it is an outlet mall. LOL.

 

17.  Pet peeve? 

Talking when someone else is talking.

 

18.  Your goal in life? 

My Author goal in life is to turn my book series into an animated series.

 

19.  Your most exciting moment? 

I have been blessed to have many exciting moments in life. My most recent exciting moment was becoming an Amazon Best-Selling Author.

 

20.  The love of your life?

My husband.

 

 

Grace loves the Winter season. It is her favorite of all seasons because she loves to play in the snow with her friends. Winter is also Grace’s favorite season because she can wear her favorite purple scarf. Grace wears it every day until she meets Ruth. After meeting Ruth as school, Grace feels differently about playing in the snow and wearing her favorite purple scarf. This is because Grace learns a valuable lesson about how to treat other people.
