Today's
guest is MaryAnn Kempher, author of the romantic mystery, MOCHA, MOONLIGHT, AND MURDER. MaryAnn is here today to answer 20 questions about her life, writing and
goals.
1. Are you a morning writer or a
night writer?
Definitely a morning writer.
2. Do you outline or are you a
pantster?
A little of both.
3. Which comes first – plot or
character?
Both are
important. I always have a good murder mystery and a humor-filled sub-plot. But,
the characters, I believe, especially with books two through seven, are why my
readers return.
4. Noise or quiet when working on
your manuscript?
Quiet.
5. Favorite TV show?
At the moment,
Blacklist.
6. Favorite type of music?
Probably classic
rock and/or 80s music.
7. Favorite craft besides
writing?
Floral
arrangements, wreaths. I like to do crafty things, though I admit I haven’t in
a while.
8. Do you play a musical instrument? No.
9. Single or married? Married.
10. Children or no? Two, a young man—21,
and a young woman—20 in Feb.
11. Pets? Yes. A chorkie named Emma.
12. Favorite place to write? Barnes and
Noble
13. Favorite restaurant? Koizi. It’s
all-you-can-eat sushi and hibachi. So good.
14. Do you work outside the home? Yes. I
served 20 years in the US Air Force. After I retired, I stayed home. My kids
were still young and it made sense. I went back to work, outside the home,
three years ago.
15. What was the name of the last movie you saw?
Jumanji
16. Favorite outdoor activity? Walking, especially
around my favorite theme park—Universal Studios.
17. Pet peeve? Just one? People who
spell a lot as one word.
18. Your goal in life? I would love for
all my books to sell really well. Other than that, to retire in eight years and
buy a condo with a view.
19. Your most exciting moment?
When Mocha,
Moonlight, and Murder broke Amazon’s top 100. It didn’t last and it didn’t
translate to overnight success, but it was still pretty cool.
20. The love of your life?
My husband. We met while both still in the Air
Force. He lived three doors down in the dormitory. We started as friends and
fell in love. We met in October of 1992 and were married in March of 1993.
We’ll celebrate our 27th anniversary next March.
For many years, MaryAnn Kempher lived in Reno Nevada where most of
her stories are set. Her books are an entertaining mix of mystery and
humor. She lives in the Tampa Florida area with her husband, two
children, and a very snooty Chorkie.

One night, 28-year-old, Katherine O’Brian, decides to walk to an
all-night diner. The only problem? It’s midnight, but Katherine lives in
Reno Nevada, a city that never sleeps; she can clearly see the diner’s
lights in the distance. It’s no big deal, until she passes someone’s
garage where a man is loading a dead body into the trunk of his car.
And now, she’s in trouble. She outran the man that night, and while she has no idea who he is, he knows who she is. And he wants her dead.
As if attempts on her life weren’t stressful enough, Katherine has gone back to college. She’s determined to finally finish her degree, but her lab partner is driving her crazy. He’s hot, but annoying. And she’s not sure which she wants more—a night of mad, passionate sex or a new lab partner. It varies from day to day.
Will Katherine give in to her lust for her partner or will she give in to her desire to throttle him? If she’s in the ground before graduation, it won’t matter.
Not your typical romance, not your typical mystery.
